Research on competition among driving instructor training participants
Nowadays the world is so replete with competition that it seems to be an inseparable part of our life. There have to be some winners and some losers. Taking into account all the positive and negative features of competition, one has to decide if this pattern of interaction will bring more advantages or disadvantages in a particular situation. A team of researchers decided to carry out an experimental study on a group of adult men, particularly driving instructors, checking if competition between individuals has a significant effect on their performance. The research took place during the annual driving instructor training workshops and contest. Competition has a significant motivating potential making the contestants showing their real abilities but also faults. The relations between the group members were also of crucial importance to the study. The men were incredibly willing to take part in the challenge and collecting points had a vital importance for them. They perceived winning, and not the development of their professional abilities, as the main objective of the driving instructor training workshops. However, there were no aggressive or hostile behaviours among the contestants.
